That’s the big question that as a human race we’re always pondering. There are books, movies, and television shows about the concept. Scientists and philosophers have pondered and studied time and the ability to move through it for centuries. Needless to say, it’s a thought-provoking notion.
Yes, we know this is an odd question for a new home builder to be asking but stick with us here. There’s a point, we promise.
Let’s get reflective for a minute. So, for you, what if you could go back in time? What would you have done differently?
I think if any of us had the chance to go back in time there is at least one thing we would have done differently. It could have been something small, like skipping the egg salad sandwich from the roadside convenience store to save yourself the hours of agony that followed, not to mention that you can’t even look at a hardboiled egg now. Maybe it was something big though, like starting to save much sooner in life, even just a few bucks here and there because you now know that you would have been so much closer to that financial goal than you are. Perhaps you would have done everything differently and rewrote your life’s story.
While we hope that’s not the case, and regardless of what you would or wouldn’t change, what’s done is done, right? We never really get a chance to go back in time and do things differently.
Or do we?

Flashback to 2021. The pandemic and everything associated with that point in time brought about an unusual housing market with unbelievably low interest rates, the likes of which we will likely never see again. Many took advantage and purchased homes at these incredibly low rates, while others refinanced their existing home and took years, possibly even decades, off the life of their current home loan.
But then there were those that chose to wait to buy a home for a variety of reasons. The timing wasn’t right, or perhaps there were credit score issues or savings that weren’t sufficient for a downpayment. Some were just holding out for the perfect home that they never found. Then there were those that got caught up in multiple bidding wars over homes and gave up on ever buying a home because, after months of bidding wars, they decided to just wait until things got better.
Whatever the case, we know it didn’t work out for many people and we know that many are frustrated with the fact that they waited. Even many of those that chose to refinance instead of buying a new home are frustrated with their decision, as they have since run into major and costly home repairs that could have been avoided, had they chosen to buy a new home instead of sticking with their existing house.
What we do know is that as interest rates started to increase in mid-March of 2022, many people knew they had missed their opportunity to buy a new home as they were instantly moved from one price point to another. Others held out thinking the rates would go back down over time only to watch them rise with only small dips here and there.
So, we ask again, what if you could go back in time? Would you have bought a new home when rates were low instead of holding out?
